UPMC VISION

AND REHABILITATION

HOSPITAL

SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER | 2017 | HOK

The 9 story 410,000 GSF building on the campus of The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) resides on the Boulevard of the Allies overlooking the Monongahela River in downtown Pittsburgh.

The innovative hospital will serve as a destination for healing, an incubator for medical advancements and a hub for biomedical research.

The building includes an innovative, low-vision, clinic-gym hybrid, which anchors the program with an interactive healing center, examination rooms, therapy stations and a central gym. The project also features a fully mocked-up apartment and street lab where patients can go through simulations that teach them critical life skills. The program also includes a rooftop "Healing and rehabilitation garden" for patients, researchers and visitors.
