The Mosque is the iconic spiritual center of KAPSARC (King Abdullah Petroleum Science and Research Center). The contemporary civic building utilizes a nested and layering approach to reinterpreting the traditional "Mashabiya" in form and surface. The ethereal floating jewel box remains platonic in form and glows externally from within. This visual experience is reversed on the interior at night with the delicate interplay of light and shadow pouring in from all sides.
